What is GIS?

A geographic information system (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, reports, and charts.

With GIS you can map where things are, map quantities, map changes, map densities, or find what's nearby, and Morris County GIS Services offers you the tools to do so for free and with ease. The primary goal of the Morris County GIS Section is to create projects that increase the efficiency of the delivery of public services. This goal includes the Morris County government and its agencies as well as the 39 municipalities in the county.
